  ATSDR - MMG: Hydrogen Chloride
  At room temperature, hydrogen chloride is a colorless to slightly yellow gas with a pungent odor. On exposure to air, the gas forms dense white vapors due to condensation with atmospheric moisture. The vapor is corrosive, and air concentrations above 5 ppm can cause irritation. Hydrogen chloride is available commercially as an anhydrous gas or as aqueous solutions (hydrochloric acid). Commercial concentrated hydrochloric acid contains 36% to 38% hydrogen chloride in water. Aqueous solutions generally are colorless but may be yellow due to traces of iron, chlorine, and organic impurities.
